Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs Review

Chez Ami is the distribution company for Patsy Aiken Designs, a children’s clothing company based in Raleigh, North Carolina.

Patsy Aiken Designs began in 1979 when Patsy Aiken, a Navy wife, began designing upscale children’s clothing and accessories and selling the items to a local boutique in California when her family was stationed there. Her husband joined the company after he left the Navy, and they moved their operations to North Carolina.

According to an interview with Patsy Aikens online, the company was originally grown through wholesale sales to vendors but switched to network marketing some time later.

Today, Patsy Aiken Designs are sold through Chez Ami in a fairly traditional network marketing arrangement bolstered by online sales. The company, like many retail outlets, has two sales seasons – Spring/Summer and Fall/Holiday. According to the same (undated) interview, Patsy Aiken Designs/Chez Ami has “about 500” independent consultants operating in 20 states.

Customers can also buy products year-round through Chez Ami consultants and online.

Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs: Products

Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs sells several lines of clothing for children from babies up until approximately 10 to 12 year olds. The company offers everything from hair accessories and ties to swim wear, nightwear, and monogramming.

The company’s designs can best be described as conservative, with designs which seem to reinforce traditional gender roles. Girls’ colors are pastel, with lots of dresses and hair jewelry, while the boys’ catalog features bold colors and clothing that looks designed for rougher play.

The products are also expensive, with a single boy’s polo shirt retailing for $47 and a girl’s peony-colored sweater selling for $48.

Given how quickly children grow, it’s easy to imagine a parent having to spend quite a bit of money every year to keep their kids in Patsy Aiken Designs. Of course, that expense is mitigated with hostess gifts or by becoming a Chez Ami consultant, as consultants receive a 40% discount.

Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs: Opportunity and Compensation

There is very, very little specific information available about the Chez Ami opportunity and compensation plan. The Chez Ami website says that consultants earn sales commissions but does not give the commission percentage. The only specific pieces of information readily available are that consultants receive a $40 percent discount on their own purchases and must pay a $50 Seasonal Commitment Fee each season.

Chez Ami is also clear about the support materials provided to consultants. Consultants receive a free sample line twice per year during selected selling weeks and do not have to pay postage for the trunk of items. The company says it pays “Reimbursement for accurate Order Entry!,” and offers free credit card processing.

The company says it also provides 24-hour access to online services and that customers can order through consultants online; however, there are no details available regarding Chez Ami’s Internet policies.

Chez Ami says that consultants do not have to carry inventory and that the company ships to customers directly, saving consultants time and potential expense and hassle.

Available reviews of Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs provided little more information than can be found on the company’s website.

Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs: Recommendations

Given how little information Chez Ami/Patsy Aiken Designs makes available about its compensation plan and policies, it’s impossible to give a recommendation as to whether or not the company is a solid income opportunity for prospective consultants.

However, if your taste in children’s clothing tends to the conservative and you would like to find a way to save money on higher-priced children’s clothing, Chez Ami/Patsy Aikens Designs offers an opportunity to dress your children for less.
